Plastics Policy

At Swingmor, we walk a softer path—minimising negative impacts on people and the planet across every part of our business. As part of this commitment, we actively seek to reduce the use of plastics wherever possible, recognising the long-lasting harm plastics cause to ecosystems, wildlife, and increasingly, human health through microplastic pollution.

Plastic Minimisation Across Our Business

We address plastic use at every stage:

  • Our delivery boxes and protective bags are made from sustainable, wood-fibre materials.
  • We minimise the use of protective plastics in bulk transportation between factories and warehouses.
  • Most critically, we avoid plastic-based fabrics like polyester and nylon, which can take up to 200 years to decompose and contribute significantly to landfill and pollution issues. Furthermore, we believe these plastic fabrics are not fit for purpose with issues around breathability, odour, and drape.

Instead, our garments are made primarily from TENCEL™ Lyocell fibres—a precision-engineered wood fibre sourced from sustainably managed European forests and processed using a closed-loop system that recycles 99% of non-toxic solvents. TENCEL™ provides the durability, breathability, and comfort essential for eco-friendly golf apparel designed to perform on and off the course.

Lifecycle Analysis Justification

While we strive to eliminate plastics, we allow up to 7% elastane (a synthetic fibre) content in our fabrics. This decision was based on careful lifecycle analysis:

  • Elastane enhances garment stretch, shape retention, and durability.
  • Longer garment life means fewer garments need to be produced, purchased, and discarded—directly reducing environmental impact.

Although elastane complicates fibre-to-fibre recycling, current global textile recycling rates are extremely low—only 1% of fabrics are recycled back into new clothes. Then 12% are downcycled into products like insulation or filler, and 87% end up in landfill.

In landfill environments, plastic fibres like polyester and nylon persist for up to 200 years, while natural-based fibres do break down faster. However, landfills are typically sealed with plastic liners, trapping all materials—and natural biodegradable fabrics under certain conditions can generate harmful methane gas, which is 28x more potent than CO₂ in contributing to climate change.

Therefore, the message for us is clear - our top priority is garment longevity: ensuring Swingmor products are worn more, loved longer, and kept out of landfill as long as possible. This slow fashion approach supports a more sustainable future.

Guaranteed Buyback Commitment

To further reduce landfill waste, we operate a Guaranteed Buyback Promise: we will buy back any Swingmor garment for 12.5% of its original RRP—regardless of condition—so we can re-use, re-purpose, or recycle the materials responsibly.

Commitments

We promise we will always only use plastic where it is justified based on lifecycle sustainability analysis, ensuring the best outcome for people and the planet.

We promise we will avoid single-use plastics and unnecessary plastic content wherever possible, supporting a healthier, cleaner world.
